#MellyTrap No.2 by Jamel on Mixcloud
The mix below was used in the Ibiza Spotlight DJ competition in 2014. It's a compilation of some groovy, bass-filled, house tunes that are funky in their own right.
Music Biography
Music Biography
Jamel's passion for music has him embarking into territory of self expression where his dexterity discovery is the byproduct of a commitment to the DJ art. Behind the decks, he's known for his technical aptitude, genre diversification, and ability to evaluate and elevate the spirit of his audiences. Delivering sound that's harmonically rhythmic, coupled with programming systemically matched, organized, and designed to facilitate an experience that makes you want to dance and prance. He's quietly, and modestly, building the reputation as a DJ who can add excitement and festivity to an, otherwise, average social congregation.
Although he was born in New York City's Lower East Side, he's spent a lot of his developmental growth years between the LES and Harlem communities. In an era where hip-hop, soul, funk, jazz, classic rhythm & blues, and house music were prominent sounds played in his household, it's clear how this music has had a significant impact on his sound and can often be heard in his sets. Also a fan of electronic dance music, techno, and trap, Jamel's sound is always distinguished by his favor for bass. Rest assured, if there's a soul in the building, it will struggle resisting the temptation to move.
Trained at the Dubspot school for Electronic Music Production and DJing, he showcased his ability to a internet radio station and earned the residency time slot, streaming live mixes of top 40 and popular dance music weekdays for two hours in the evenings. After several months of playing for virtual audiences, Jamel turned his attention to an opportunity to make people dance alongside his mentor (one of Dubspot's Instructors & Co-Founder) at a prominent NYC night club. Tasked with the responsibility for opening sets, Jamel demonstrated his understanding of the art behind being an opener. Craftily programming sets designed to get the crowd in the mood to party by maintaining engagement and building anticipation. Jamel would later earn the opportunity to play peak hour sets where his knack for the art and passion were on full bloom for patrons out, and in search, for joyous festivity.
In addition to Dubspot, Jamel studied music production via other outlets that include Coursera (online) and Devotion Learn (Brooklyn, NY). With aspirations to start remixing and producing his own tracks, Jamel has become proficient with the Ableton Live 9 digital audio workstation (DAW) and Native Instruments Maschine 2.0.
